Very rare matched pair of vintage MC phono step-up input transformers from Kudelski S.A. - the famous European manufacture of professional audio equipment with trademark Nagra
These transformers were used in broadcast studio as universally portable step-up input transformers for dynamic microphone and record players with MC phono pick-up, special to serially connecting with the transmission cables.
Because of an excellent transmission performance, they are really perfect to application with MC phono cartridges, as well with low and high output impedance.
In originally they were used with 20 dB step-up rate only. I prepared these transformers, especially for use as MC Phono step-up input transformers with optional variable step-up rate of 20 dB and 25 dB
These transformers have two separate input coils, which can be connected in two options - parallel or serial . Inside is a little slide switch for switching between these two options.
With the first option ( parallel connection) with unloaded output the ratio is 1:30 (29dB)
With the second option (serial connection) with unloaded output the ratio is 1:15 (23dB)
In case of a connection with the MM input (typically input resistance about 50 kOhm) the output is loaded with a resistance about 50 kOhm. In this application with the first option the real ratio is 1:20 with step-up rate 25dB, and in the second option the real ratio is 1:10 with step-up rate 20dB
I tested these transformers with a special MC Phantom with adjustable output impedance, with a sinus signal in the frequency range from 10 Hz to 20 kHz, with output (source) impedance in the range from 2 Ohm to 40 Ohm.
These transformers really have absolutely exceptional transmission parameters.
The frequency transmissions rate is perfectly linear in the entire impedance range from 2 to 40 Ohm.
from 10 Hz to 20 kHz really +/- 0dB!!
